The institution now named Queen Margaret University was established as the Edinburgh School of Cookery in 1875. We have always been driven by the highest ideals and purposes, focusing on contributing in practical ways to improving people's lives and serving the community and in 2007, shortly after winning full university title, the institution relocated to our award winning, purpose built campus in Musselburgh, Edinburgh.

At QMU we aim to shape a better world through education, research and innovation. In doing so, we enable individuals and communities to flourish. Our person-centred approach to learning makes us stand out from other universities, along with our focus on making society better. Our academic offering also distinguishes us. We dedicate ourselves to subjects where we can offer a distinctive offering - in healthcare; social sciences; creative arts; business, management and enterprise; and primary and secondary teaching. Outward looking, we have strong ethos of partnership and collaboration. At our modern campus, we benefit from easy access to the centre of Edinburgh, Scotland's vibrant and historic capital city. We are pioneers in inclusiveness and we embrace people from all backgrounds. Social justice is central to our values.

By challenging conventional thought we are improving wellbeing and quality of life through internationally excellent and world-leading interdisciplinary, research and KE - making an impact and responding with integrity, we are known for the creation of research-based evidence and innovation in policy and practice. Our strategic Research Centres, Institute and Knowledge Exchange Centres work at the intersection of conventional disciplinary groupings to create innovative approaches to contemporary societal challenges and public discourse.

People, Culture and Impact are at the core of our Research and KE Strategy 2022-2027 which aims to deliver a step change in our research and KE culture over the next five years. A key driver has been to ensure that we are alert to a challenging external funding context and that our objectives are clear, consistent and cognisant of policy agendas. Our vision is to be a leading and inclusive modern University, known for transformative research and KE, excellent in our outputs, progressive and distinctive in our culture, and far reaching in our impact.
