The University of Sunderland welcomes all with talent into higher education and supports them in reaching their potential. It is recognised as one of the great, modern, civic universities and respected for the transformative impact it has on its students, the relevance of its programmes and for its ambition.

The University has 20,000 students based at campuses in Sunderland, London and Hong Kong, as well as with global learning partnerships in 14 countries. In its Strategic Plan 2016 - 2021, the University set out a compelling vision, stretching ambitions and values which highlight the principles guiding its activities, decisions and behaviours.

The University of Sunderland measures success not just by awards and league table results, but by the contribution it makes to society. Working to shape the city and region, the University is proud of its positive contribution to economic and social change. Its graduates leave equipped with the knowledge, skills, confidence and connections to make a positive difference in the wider world.

It is proud of its long-established commitment to widening participation - the University's work to raise aspirations and promote social inclusion is providing life-changing opportunities for its diverse and vibrant community.

The University of Sunderland's work in culture is recognised nationally, not least because it has a positive impact on urban regeneration and social change. Meanwhile, its new Sunderland School of Medicine is on track to open in September 2019 and its first nursing and paramedic practice students will graduate in 2018/19. In addition, it is making significant investment in engineering and technology to support the needs of the local economy.
