In 2016, the University of Huddersfield celebrated its 175th anniversary as an educational institute. It was originally established in 1841 to educate local working people, it has since grown into an award-winning university with over 23,000 students. In 2013, the University of Huddersfield was named University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards.

Our academic staff are continually rated as providing high quality teaching in an exciting and stimulating environment, and we are the UK's leading university for the receipt of National Teaching Fellowships to mark Britain's best lecturers in Higher Education for the past ten years. We are proud to have been recognised as a gold-rated university by the Teaching Excellence Framework. In 2017 we also won the first Higher Education Academy Global Teaching Excellence Award, recognising the University's commitment to world-class teaching and its success in developing students as independent learners and critical thinkers

The University of Huddersfield is an internationally-renown centre of research and teaching excellence and we always push the boundaries of knowledge. Our researchers are committed to solving the problems and answering the questions posed by industry, science and society as a whole. Research activity at Huddersfield addresses real-world issues involving the wider community and engaging people. With our research we develop partnerships and collaboration that benefit the world we all live in. As the University of Huddersfield's vision is to be an inspiring, innovative university of international renown, our mission includes a commitment to engage fully with policy-makers, practitioners, and our local communities to realise the public value of the University's work through contributions to economic, social and cultural development.
