London South Bank University

London South Bank University (LSBU) has been transforming lives, communities and businesses for over 125 years, providing high quality professional and technical education to a diverse and vibrant student body.

Our teaching is underpinned by close working relationships with industry, often developed through collaborative applied research; access to industry standard facilities; and courses accredited by professional bodies and designed with employers. Over a third of our students study on courses sponsored by their employers and our Passmore Centre provides a dedicated hub for apprenticeships and our employed-facing education offer.

Enterprise and business-collaboration is central to the University’s work and in 2016 LSBU was named Entrepreneurial University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards. In 2018 the University’s hub for entrepreneurial activity, the Clarence Centre for Enterprise and Innovation, was ranked in the top 15 worldwide amongst university-run business incubators. The Clarence Centre is home to over 70 SMEs, which contribute to the university’s work and curricula, whilst receiving access to the university’s research and business support expertise.

Our research is highly applied and focused on addressing real-world challenges. Three quarters of our research was rated as world leading or internationally recognised for impact in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework. Our Research Centres, in tandem with our Research Groups, are beacons of innovative, timely research. They cover a diverse range of themes, including: health and social care; sports and exercise; addictive behaviours; robotics; clean energy and energy systems; urban infrastructure and resilience; biomedical engineering; big data and cloud computing; and digital storymaking.

We work closely with industry, business, community and government partners, providing the high-quality applied research they need to improve and grow. In turn, these external links enhance our students’ success by providing an industry-standard learning experience and ensuring they have the knowledge and skills that are attractive to employers today and in the future. Examples of our research include:
