University of Essex
The University of Essex is part of an elite group of ‘dual intensive’ universities gold rated for teaching excellence (TEF 2017) and 25th in the UK for research quality (TGUG 2018). We’re 22nd in the Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and over 5 decades we’ve created a community for original thinkers who seek to change the world for the better. We’re ranked 19th for international outlook (THE World University Rankings 2018) and ranked in the top 15 for the fifth year running in the NSS (2017, overall student satisfaction, mainstream universities). We were named University of the Year at the Times Higher Education Awards 2018. We’ve more than 15,000 students drawn from more than 140 countries studying across three campuses in Colchester, Southend and Loughton plus our partners.
Renowned for research in social science, human rights and data analytics, our research shapes thinking and influences policy. The University has consistently ranked number one in the UK for politics, and in the top five for social sciences and economics (REF 2014, mainstream universities, THE 2018). We’re the only University to be awarded a Regius Professorship for political science by Her Majesty the Queen for fifty years of excellence in research and education in our outstanding Department of Government.
