Established in 1946, the University of Worcester focuses on world-class teaching and practical, purposeful research that creates a benefit in wider society through innovative, strategic, and responsible, engagement practices and Knowledge Exchange. The University of Worcester has identified five Areas of Challenge, in which we focus our research:
Human Health and Wellbeing: Our Research seeks to meet the health and social care challenges of the 21st century. Our interdisciplinary research groups bring together academics, clinicians, patients, and the general public, to coproduce innovative opportunities and develop new ways of working, both across an ageing population and with those experiencing health inequalities.
Sustainable Futures: In the effort to reverse the human impact on the environment, our Research and Knowledge Exchange endeavours to solve complex problems by aiding organisational and public understanding. Our work covers both fundamental research into plant and microbial biosciences and the social aspects of sustainable futures; mutually reinforcing environments, ecosystems and natural capital through the preservation or enhancement of environment-society inter-relationships.
Digital Innovation: Our Digital Innovation Research uses the application of intelligent systems to real world problems in the areas of health and well-being, business growth and development, criminal justice, and education. Our projects balance solutions and connection against the significant ethical issues and moral dilemmas that accompany Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.
Culture, Identity and Social Exclusion: The marginalisation of national, social, cultural and personal identities has continued throughout the shifting and developing 21st century. Our ethically and socially responsible research in this area, seeks to foster a collaborative approach in developing inclusive knowledge and practice across Law, Humanities, Inclusive Sport and Physical Activity, Social Care Services and Education.
Professional Education: The University of Worcester conducts Research and Knowledge Exchange around Social Psychology and Pedagogy, informing curriculum development. Our Coach Developer, Health Professions, and Participant Centred Learning in Management Education Research Groups strive to improve education and attainment across key professions and commercial practitioners to shape, develop and deliver impactful teaching and learning in professional education.
