History & Policy was founded in 2002 with the mission of supporting more robust and historically-grounded policy making in the UK, and has grown to a network of over 500 historians worldwide.
Knowledge of the past can provide essential background information to help those grappling with complex policy issues today, understand the context in which previous decisions were made, and provide the tools to assess evidence and evaluate a range of policy options. H&P supports historians in communicating their research in policy discourse by holding events and seminars in Whitehall, conducting training, and publishing research in non-academic formats.
H&P is led by director Dr Andrew Blick (King’s College London) and currently consists of a Research Engagement Manager based at King’s College London, plus the support of a Digital Communications Manager at Cambridge, backed by the expertise of a committee of historians who contribute their time on top of their academic roles.
