We were set up over 200 years ago in 1823 to provide access to education to anyone who had the ability and drive to succeed, regardless of their circumstances or background. The fact that 83% of Birkbeck’s research was rated “World Leading” or “Internationally Excellent” at REF 2021 attests to its rigor and quality. As does the fact that 100% of our impact submission from disciplines as diverse as Modern Languages, English Literature and Psychological Sciences was graded 4*. We, however, see excellent research as a starting point, not the end, our driving force being the desire to impact upon the world and especially policy through close considered collaborations, that truly understands and inspires thinkers, doers, and advocates of all kinds, on all scales, wherever they are situated
