Advisory Board brings cross-sector expertise to UPEN

UPEN has appointed a new Advisory Board to provide strategic counsel to leadership on the progress and delivery of UPEN Programmes, our £5.9m investment from Research England.

The Board will also support UPEN in our journey towards becoming a sustainable organisation post 2028.

Chaired by Professor Graeme Reid (UCL) the newly appointed Board brings together senior leaders from the academic-policy engagement landscape. Membership includes representation from central government, devolved legislatures, local government, funding bodies, and Higher Education. The diverse range of voices will ensure UPEN’s work remains informed by academia while being responsive to policy need across the UK. The Board’s collective expertise will shape UPEN’s mission to strengthen the interface between research and public policy across the UK.

Advisory Board Chair, Professor Graeme Reid, said:

Members of the UPEN Advisory Board have a broad range of experience the interface between universities and public policy.  Backed by Research England’s vital investment, UPEN will ensure that academic-policy engagement is demonstrably stronger and more effective at the end of the current programme. The Board will provide guidance, support and challenge to the UPEN community as it pursues this important agenda.  I look forward to chairing the Board.

To ensure the Advisory Board has the right expertise to guide UPEN, they will use a ‘co-opt’ approach. This allows the group to invite individuals to contribute in order to address knowledge or practice gaps.

Ayden McKeating, UPEN Head of Programmes and Operations, said:

The Advisory Board is critical to the success of UPEN Programmes delivery. I’m looking forward to working with members over the next three years as UPEN develops its future sustainability model.
